Help make a difference to children's lives

Beighton Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) is based at the Becton Centre, a modern base for a wide variety of CAMHS services. Parking is available at the site.
We aim to provide a comprehensive and high quality service to children and young people registered with a General Practitioner in the South East of Sheffield, who are experiencing difficulties which are seriously impacting on their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
We accept referrals from general practitioners, social workers, educational psychologists, paediatricians and the clinical psychology department at Sheffield Children's Hospital. We accept referrals of young people up to their 16th Birthday.
At the first appointment you and your family will meet one of the clinicians from our team. We will ask you to fill in some questionnaires when you arrive. During the first appointment the clinician will ask you questions and hear from you and your family about what has been happening, what the difficulties have been and what strengths and resources your family has. This then allows us to think about if we are the best service to be involved and if we are, what we can offer to you and your family.
Sometimes people do not need to be seen again after a first appointment, but if we agree that it would be useful for you and your family to come back after a first appointment we work in a variety of ways. Sometimes we work with you on your own, sometimes we work with parents on their own, sometimes we work with whole families and sometimes we work with one parent and a young person, or we can work in more than one of these combinations. We tailor what we offer to the difficulties being experienced, your families and your wishes and what we think would be most appropriate for these difficulties. During this work we hold regular review meetings to see how things are progressing and whether further input from our team is needed.
If other agencies are involved in a young persons care e.g. school, social care, voluntary agencies, then we will ask for permission for us to contact them and liaise with them whilst we are working with a young person and their family, so we can make them aware of our involvement.
We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, psychiatrists,
psychologists, family therapists, art psychotherapists and administrative staff.
