Help make a difference to children's lives
Poor mental health is Britain’s biggest social problem and worryingly, around 700,000 children and younger adults (one in 10) in England and Wales have a reported mental health condition.
So it’s fortunate that Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has developed a new £12 million mental health centre.
The state-of-the-art Becton Centre for Children and Young People, in Beighton, Sheffield, which is managed by the Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
The facility has brought together day and inpatient services for children and young people with mental health issues and new services for young people with learning disabilities.
Children, young people and families from South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, receive support and treatment for a range of debilitating mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, to name a few.
Included in the development is a new specialist assessment service, treating young people with both learning disabilities fully and mental health needs, which will enable up to 20 people per year to be treated close to home.
This is an exciting and much needed service for the region, as mental health issues continue to take the spotlight.
This project is being funded by NHS Sheffield, NHS Rotherham, NHS Barnsley, NHS Doncaster and Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust.
